You see there are two problems with using Facebook for promoting your blog…
First is the fact that only followers will see your posts. So a person must “like” your Facebook page before they will see your posts in their Facebook feed.
Secondly, even if they are a follower of your Facebook page, they still might not see your posts because Facebook doesn’t show all your posts to your followers!
That may sound crazy, but Facebook uses what they call EdgeRank to determine what posts it shows to your followers. The technical details are a Facebook secret, but the fact is that the more people engage with your posts, the higher your EdgeRank and the more Facebook shares your posts with your followers.
So…the secret is that Engagement is key!
In this post we will cover 5 tips to help boost your Facebook engagement and profit from the traffic windfall of Facebook.

These tips have helped us get incredible results from our fan pages. Just check out this graph from one of them.
But first, if you don’t have a Facebook fan page, you need to get one! This is different than your regular Facebook profile for personal use. Facebook fan pages are geared toward business use rather than personal updates. They are easy to setup so don’t be intimidated!
Setting Up Your Facebook Fan Page
Facebook has great instructions on how to setup your fan page. You can read this tutorial at https://www.facebook.com/business/build. I recommend selecting for your category “Brand or Product” as the main category as shown in the picture below…
Under this main category, you will be asked to select a subcategory. For bloggers I recommend selecting “Website” as the sub-category with your blog as the website address as shown below…
Once you have selected your category, Facebook will step you through to choosing a cover photo and inviting friends. (Click here for a walk-through of the remaining steps.)
Once you have your Facebook Fan Page up and running, you can start implementing our 5 steps. Lets get to it!
Facebook Rockstar Tip #1
Like other fan page of bloggers as your fan page instead of your personal profile. They in turn will likely visit and like your fan page as well. You can also share their interesting posts or announcements on your fan page to bring exposure to your page. Spending time on other fan pages (while using Facebook as your fan page) is a great way to bring traffic back to your own fan page, while also putting fresh content on your page without a lot of work. This is a supercharged tip that brings great results!

Facebook Rockstar Tip #2
Don’t be all Business. We find that some of our most engaged posts have nothing to do with our blog. Facebook is social and people are much more likely to interact with posts that are of a more personal nature. So feel to interject interesting tidbits about your life or your thoughts on current events. Be a real person and they will be more likely to engage with your posts.
Facebook Rockstar Tip #3
Words are good. Images are better! A HubSpot study found that when photos are posted on pages they receive 53 percent more “likes” than the average post. It also found that the average number of comments per post on images is 104 percent higher than on other types of content. So put up that image of your amazing creation, that amazing casserole you baked, or cute dog just out to the bath. People love these posts! The image below got 495 shares and was seen by over 25,000 people!
Facebook Rockstar Tip #4
Ask questions in your Facebook posts. People naturally want to answer questions so by asking a question in your post, you will get a lot more comments. This in turn increases the engagement factor on your fan page which means that Facebook will show your posts to more users, who also will comment and so on and so on…. You get the picture right?
Here are some sample questions to get those brain juices flowing…
What is your favorite ____________?
Would you rather ____________ or ____________?
Do you think _____________ will be a great TV show? Yes or No?
What do you think of this ____________?
What is the one thing you hate about _____________?
3 Things you must have in your _____________ – __________ & ___________ & ___________. Did I miss anything?
Facebook Rockstar Tip #5
Like comments of others on your own Facebook posts. This is a great way to bring back current followers. When you like the comments on your on Facebook posts, the commenters will be notified that you liked your comment and will be more likely to return to see what else was said on the post that they liked. How do I know this? Well I do the same thing when others like my posts. You know you do too don’t you!
